Hanen Program

Hanen Classes

Due to the coronavirus, Imagine!'s Hanen classes will only be offered online via Zoom meetings until further notice.

Imagine!'s Dayspring Services offer Hanen parent-education programs to families who want to enhance their children's language development and communication.

What is Hanen?

Hanen classes are 12-13 week programs for parents that are taught by speech-language pathologists. The classes include a combination of group meetings and individual coaching sessions. The program was developed by the Hanen Centre in Toronto as a way to support parents in their primary role in order to help their children develop communication skills. It is all about involving parents in providing interventions and incorporating the daily routines of families as components of best practices in early intervention and lead to better outcomes for young children.  The Hanen Centre programs follow best practices by providing intensive, meaningful parent-education and coaching to families of children with language delays and social communication delays.  The Hanen approach is centered on the parent coaching model. There are a variety of programs for parents and educators to help promote the social, language, and literacy skills of their young children. The Hanen programs include research-based group training classes and individual home coaching sessions. The Hanen Centre's mission is "to provide parents, caregivers, early childhood educators and speech-language pathologists with the knowledge and training they need to help young children develop the best possible language, social and literacy skills. This includes children with or at risk of language delays and those with developmental challenges such as Autism Spectrum Disorder." - http://www.hanen.org/About-Us.aspx.
