What is a developmental disability?

A developmental disability is a disability that occurs before a person reaches 22 years of age and creates a substantial and lasting handicap for the person. Developmental disabilities can result from conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism or other neurological impairments when those impairments hamper general intellectual functioning.

What is a developmental delay?

A developmental delay is the slowed or impaired development of a child under five who is at risk of having a developmental disability.
