As virtual classes have jumped in popularity, employees in Community and Employment Services used this opportunity to come up with so many fun and creative opportunities for clients. One recent addition to the schedule is a wonderful class called Afternoon Tea and Watercolors. Claire Fowler, the instructor for this class, teaches the participants about different artists all while enjoying some lovely afternoon tea. On July 6th, Claire discussed Katsushika Hokusai, the painter behind the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa. She went through a great deal of his works while engaging the students through asking them to point out colors, animals, and other elements of the piece in question.

Next, Claire led them through a discussion of green tea and its significance in Japanese culture. She presented a slide on the Japanese tea ceremony as well as showed a video of Sobin Koizumi, a tea master from Japan. Several of the participants expressed their love of green tea too.

Towards the end of class, Claire painted a snail and a dog using colors chosen by the students. Mike chose blue, Gerald chose black, and Claire used these colors to fill in the drawings she had done in the previous class using her hand as a shape.

There is nothing more enjoyable than a good cup of tea and looking at beautiful art, so thank you, Claire, for teaching this class! If you or someone you know would like to join the next class, sign up here!
