Valentine’s Day is the second largest card-sending holiday, averaging 180 million cards delivered to a loved one annually. Imagine! artists wanted in on the action and created card designs to be sold on the Imagine! Etsy Shop just in time for the “love” holiday.

A total of 12 designs were submitted and six were chosen to be featured and sold online. After two weeks of open sales, Imagine! artists sold 228 Valentine’s Day cards to customers nationwide! One artist, in particular, Racheal Goodman, was determined to sell 100 cards of her design alone, and with persistent salesmanship and a friendly charm, she surpassed her goal by selling 119 of her original greeting card design.

“I knew all my friends would want my card since they can’t see me right now,” said Goodman. The COVID-19 quarantine hasn’t stopped our community from making connections, and this was Racheal’s way of staying in touch with friends and family.

But she didn’t stop there. Racheal reached out to her dentist's office, giving them a flyer that they in turn handed to their patients. Several of Racheal’s friends spread the word by posting on social media and sharing in their social circles.

“I have experience with selling things because I always nag people to buy from me,” laughs Racheal. “One year, I sold 1,080 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies.”

Racheal’s design was so popular among her family and friends that Imagine! worked with her to put the same design on a coffee mug. This was also a big hit as Racheal sold 17 mugs.

Imagine!’s Community Services supports artists with disabilities 18+ in becoming independent entrepreneurs through creative expression. Proceeds from each purchase go directly to the artist, minus material costs, taxes, and fees.

“I love doing this, it’s my favorite thing in the world, making art and selling it,” said Goodman. “I feel really proud of it.” When Racheal found out that her design was chosen to be sold on Etsy, she was VERY excited. “I was jumping up and down in my house!” Soon after, her boyfriend of 18 years bought her a cake that said “Congratulations!” and they celebrated Racheal’s accomplishment. To top it off, Racheal returned the gesture by giving her boyfriend a card and mug featuring her design.

Racheal plans to submit designs for future holiday sales such as Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas. We are so proud of Racheal for all of her hard work the past month, and congratulate her for reaching her goal!
