In mid-March, when schools were closed and Imagine!’s Community Services suspended, Imagine!’s therapeutic team immediately started brainstorming how they could reach their participants during the quarantine. After collaborating with Imagine!’s Public Relations department, they started filming homemade videos offering engaging activities and discussions. A short three weeks later, Imagine! employees have now produced 26 videos, ranging from arts and crafts, dance, meditation, music, trivia, and more!
The process certainly presented challenges. “An important piece to being a therapist is reading the room and adapting an activity or discussion to meet our participants where they are in the moment,” said Ryann Mickens, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). “That’s not possible in a video, so it has taken some getting used to in creating content that reaches as many people as possible.”
While the videos continue to get more and more creative, they have reached over 1,100 views on YouTube and 437 visits to our website. As companies nationwide offer free online content/services during the COVID-19 crisis, “our videos show Imagine! participants a familiar face and an activity that is designed for them,” said Taylor Combs (CTRS).
The videos are FREE and available to everyone! Subscribe to ImagineColorado on YouTube.
