Today we congratulate Minnie Lewis, who has been nominated for an Alliance DSP of the Year Award. We don’t know if Minnie will be selected for this award by Alliance, but we do know we are so lucky to have her as part of our team! Below is information from Minnie’s nomination, demonstrating clearly why she was selected for this honor.
Minnie is always the first person into work in the morning. She carefully reviews the schedule, plans, and details for the day. She is the most patient and compassionate person that I have ever met. She jumps in and supports anywhere without question. It is clear that she just wants to provide an impeccable level of service day in and day out. She meets all individuals at their level and treats everyone that she meets with dignity and respect. Every day she strives and succeeds to create an person centered, inclusive, and supportive environment by taking the time to really get to know our individuals so she can provide them with most opportunities as possible. For example, there was one day where she was working with a client that I have known for years and had never heard laugh or had seen smile. She worked with him all day, took the time to figure out what made engaged him and made him happy. At the end of the day, I got to witness this client laugh and smile as she sang to him. This was one of the most memorable moments for me and I’m sure it was for her and the client as well. She has really made an impact on all of the clients by the caring and kind approach she takes everyday, to create a world of opportunity for all abilities.
Minnie really meets individuals where they are at. She takes the time to really get to know someone and will work patiently with them to accomplish their goal. She is always looking for ways to adapt activities and tasks so that they can be accomplished. She communicates clearly with other staff that will also support these individuals. They will work together to come up with the best way to support individuals to achieve their goals.
She is always modeling ways to communicate and socialize appropriately. Encouraging all to participate in the activities and to engage in the community while always looking for the best opportunity to do that. She always has a person centered approach and supports our folks to make independent choices.
Minnie supports our participants with various community activities, from going to the Library, adaptive classes, community trips to the mall, grocery store, and beyond. While in the community Minnie supports our individuals to work on and utilize the many skills that they need to be safe and included in the community.
Minnie is always the first one to jump in and lend a hand. She does not hesitate to help where needed. If she doesn't know the answer she will certainly find it.
