Meet Our Dayspring Team - Mara Kuczun

We are pretty proud of our Dayspring team and we don’t mind bragging about them! This month, we want to honor Mara Kuczun. See below for a brief interview with Mara to learn more about her and her work.

Title: Bilingual Early Childhood Special Educator

Length of employment: 18 years

Geographical areas covered: Boulder County

Brief about background in EI: I have worked with Imagine for 18 years as a Bilingual Early Childhood Special Educator. I love the diversity of the work and learning from each and every family I meet about their family culture and the goals they have for their child and their family. We all have strengths and needs and being a part of both the challenges and the successes are what keeps my interest and keeps me learning and growing as a professional and as a person. I also am currently co-teaching some of the Dayspring community activities: Stomping with Sara is a music and movement class and Ready, Set, Go, which is a preschool readiness program for parents and their children who are about to enter preschool.

Describe the special skills you bring to EI: I enjoy speaking Spanish and often work with Spanish-speaking families and their children. I also have experience using sign language and like to incorporate that into my work with families. Over the last 25 years I have worked with such a diverse group of families and situations that I have experience with many different needs such as vision loss, children on the autism spectrum, children who are dual language learners as well as children with other developmental delays. As a teacher, I focus on teaching the child’s caregivers strategies that they can use in their everyday routines in order to address their priorities for their child’s development. I enjoy individualizing things for each family and find that is the best way to give support that can make a difference.

Your favorite past time/hobby/reading material/skills: In my free time I work with a wood sculptor as well as dabbling in my own art and I spend a great deal of time in the mountains running and hiking or skate-skiing, often with my husband. We have three children and are lucky to live close by our parents and siblings.

Given the choice of being anywhere in the world, where would you be? : I would be right where I am doing right what I am doing, working with young children and their families with the amazing Dayspring team.
