Halloween Tips And Tricks

Halloween is this weekend! Here are some tips on how to trick or treat and be safe:

1. Mask up! Children under 12 are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, so it is recommended that they wear a mask when going door to door to prevent the spread of the infection. Adults and children of any age regardless of vaccination status should also wear a mask if they are attending any indoor events. And hey, because it's Halloween, feel free to make yours spooky!

2. Keep your hands clean! While the spread of the disease via candy wrappers remains fairly low, it is still a good idea to wash your hands and/or sanitize before eating any. The candy itself is not contagious, so no need to quarantine them. Just wash your hands and enjoy!

3. Celebrate outside if you can! It will be around 50 degrees here in Boulder and Broomfield counties, so you might want to bundle up a bit, but celebrating outside is a great way to have fun and reduce the chance of spreading the virus.

4. Prepare your child for things they might see while trick or treating to establish what they are comfortable with. Sometimes people like to decorate their houses with spooky sights or flashing lights, so make sure everyone is prepared with self-calming techniques or a way to avoid these houses.

5. If your child does well with being prepared ahead of time, try doing a trial run with their costume and walking around the block so that they can get used to these new safety recommendations. Being comfortable and safe is super important this year and any year, but once those are taken care of then it's time to grab your bags and get ready for a fun Halloween night!
