"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." — Edith Pierce

Dear friend of Imagine! –

The start of a New Year has traditionally been the time when we look back and reflect on what has happened in the previous year.

I’m not sure I entirely want to revisit this past year!

However, there were some positives that came from the year that are worth sharing, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a quick moment to acknowledge them.

This last year, like no other, Imagine! employees took our mission to heart and made it real in the process. That is no small feat. In a field where human interaction means almost everything, the fact that we lost most opportunities to work face to face with our favorite people meant we had to change the way we did almost everything.

And yet, we did change. Quickly, efficiently, and with the same dedication, compassion, and commitment to the people we serve that has been the hallmark of Imagine! for close to 60 years.

The individuals and families we serve may have felt the same loss and confusion we all felt last year, but with few exceptions, they continued to benefit from our services, allowing them to navigate this new world, with all of its ups and downs, along with the rest of us. That we achieved that level of continuity in our services is thanks to dedicated Imagine! employees at every level who refused to back down to the greatest challenge our organization has ever faced.

Our community was equality resilient. Our partner organizations adapted and adjusted on the fly, our donors kept on giving in ways big and small, and the families and the individuals we served were strong and spirited, even during the most difficult days of the year.

So as we all bid a resounding “goodbye and good riddance” to 2020, I am confident that the experience will make us all just a little wiser, a little more understanding of our fellow human beings, and a little closer to creating a world of opportunity for all abilities.

Thank you for being part of the Imagine! family. I wish you a very Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Novinger
CEO, Imagine!
