Here’s a fun success story from Imagine!’s Dayspring team.
A child Jensen Hanyak, an Imagine! bilingual Speech Language Pathologist, is working with (and who is 2 years and 9 months old) was using mostly 1-2 words to convey wants/needs when they started in January. Now he is using 3-6 word phrases, like “that’s so silly,” “yeah, me too!” and “blue is my favorite color ever!” He also makes comparisons between himself/his mom with pictures of animals, for example he will point to a big elephant and say “that mama elephant, like you mama!” and then point to a small elephant and say “that baby, like me!” These phrases show an increased vocabulary and greatly improved syntax/pragmatic language skills. The family is bilingual, so some of the time Jensen and the mom speak in Spanish. They have navigated the family moving from Boulder to Lafayette while in services (so switching schedules around to accommodate), and went through a period of heavy Zoom use to make schedules align, but are now back to in person.
The family told us: “The Dayspring Early Intervention program was a beacon in the dark for us. It put us in touch with the phenomenally deep bench of resources that are the Dayspring team. Not only did they help us establish and achieve goals with consistent progress, every moment with our early childhood special educator was also a master class in parenting. I wish every parent and teacher could have access to this wealth of resources.”
