Employees > Raeann - Passion Unlocked
Submitted by Raeann Williams - Out & About Instructor 2011-2013
My two years at Out & About are some of my most treasured memories. I randomly applied at O&A for a summer job, not really knowing what I was getting myself into. Although I had a degree in sociology, I had never even considered working with people with disabilities and I wasn't really even sure what that meant. Little did I know, that this job would shape my entire worldview on people, how individuals can contribute to society and steer my life path in a different direction. It unlocked a passion in my heart that I didn't even know existed.
In many ways, I realized through Imagine!'s vision that helping individuals realize their full potential and learn the skills to do so, was really what I wanted to do with my life.
Reflecting on those two years, there are too many memories to just pick one, but I realized that what has stuck with me the most is little tidbits that still come to mind and bring a smile to my face when I think of them. Whether it’s from funny things that participants did or said, the teamwork of amazing coworkers, or creatively overcoming some challenging behaviors, these memories still fill me with joy.
Not to mention, I was always surrounded with an amazing group of people who genuinely cared for people and were always up for creative problem solving and helping when we needed it. I have still never experienced the amazing staff support that I did with O&A anywhere else.
Out & About taught me so many skills that shape my life today as a mom, military spouse, and respite provider for military families that have children with disabilities. I'm grateful for such an amazing program, the difference in makes in so many people's lives and the difference it made in mine.
